Enter additional parents

A child may have more than one set of parents, for example, step-fathers and step-mothers. You can enter the additional parents.

To create an additional set of parents for a child:
    1. Open the Family View containing the child for whom you want to create another set of parents. The child must be displayed in the Children list, not in a Husband or Wife field.

    2. From the People menu, select Other Parents.

    3. Click Create new parents.

    4. Select one of the three options, Two new parents, Another father, or Another mother.

    5. Click the Relationship with drop-down list(s) and choose the word that describes the relationship between the new parent(s) and the child.

Please note that a child can only have one natural mother and one natural father.

    6. Click OK after making your selections.

    7. If the child has siblings, Family Tree Maker asks whether you want to associate those siblings with the new set of parents. Click either Yes or No.

If you choose Yes, Family Tree Maker adds any siblings that have the same preferred parents (see Choosing preferred parents) Family Tree Maker also gives the siblings the same relationship to the new parent(s), unless the siblings would then have too many natural parents. In this case Family Tree Maker gives them a step- relationship.

    8. Family Tree Maker displays a new Family View with children in the Children list. Depending on which option you selected in step 4, either the Husband or the Wife field may be filled in already. Enter information about this set of parents in the Husband, Wife, and other fields.
If either the husband or wife already exists elsewhere in your Family File, Family Tree Maker asks you to verify the relationships.
