Detaching a child from the wrong parents
If you accidentally assign a child to the wrong parent, you can detach the child from his or her parents and link the child to the correct parent.
To detach a child from the wrong parents:
1. Go to the Family View page containing the appropriate child.
Note: You must be on the Family View page where the individual is in the Children list, not the Husband or Wife section. If you're on a page where the individual appears as a husband or wife, click the tab for the individual's parents. This tab is on the right side of your screen.
2. Place the cursor on the child you want to detach.
3. From the People menu, select Fix Relationship (ALT, P, F).
4. From the Fix Relationship sub-menu, select Detach Child.
Family Tree Maker asks you to confirm the detachment.
If the child has siblings, Family Tree Maker asks if the siblings should be detached as well. If you select Yes, Family Tree Maker will detach all siblings from the parents at once and they will remain together as siblings. If you select No, Family Tree Maker will only detach the selected individual.
