Text On The Family Page Too Small, Or Changing The Font On The Family Page

"Bob", a Global Gazette reader and regular visitor to the Global Genealogy & History Shoppe, recently picked up his computer from the repair shop. Now the font size in the Family Tree Maker main entry screen (Family Page) is so small he can hardly read it. Here's what to do when the text on the main entry screen is too small or if you want to change the Family Page font.

Answer:
    If the text on a family page screen looks smaller than it usually does or just doesn't look like the screen you normally see, first make sure that Family Tree Maker's window is maximized (so that it fills the whole screen). To make sure that the program is running maximized, hold down the ALT key on your keyboard and press the Spacebar. From the resulting menu (in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, choose Maximize if it is available. If Maximize if not available and your only choice it to Minimize, then you are already running the program in the full screen.

    You can try changing the font displayed on the family page. You may find this useful in troubleshooting a display problem on the family page. To change the font:
      From Family Tree Maker go to the Help menu and select System Information.

      Press the down arrow at the end of the Run line and choose FTW.INI.

      Look in the [Options] section for a line that looks like:
      ;FamPagFont=Arial Bold

      Edit this line so it looks like:
      FamPagFont=Times New Roman

      making sure to remove the semicolon from the beginning of the line.

      From the File menu in Notepad, choose Exit and confirm that you wish to save the changes you have made.

      Exit and restart Family Tree Maker in order for this change to take effect.

      Using the same technique you can choose to use any font that you have installed as the font on the Family Page. You can see which fonts are installed in by choosing Start > Settings > Control Panel, then double click on the Fonts icon.

    The foregoing was provided by Paul Burchfield at FTM. Paul is the fellow who does such a terrific job describing how to use features in Family Tree Maker in the FTM video tape series.
