Including Pictures in a
Family Tree Maker "Genealogy Report"

Global Gazette reader "Bonnie" asks the question: "How can I add pictures to a Genealogy Report when using my Family Tree Maker program?"

Answer:
The Family Tree Maker program will help you add pictures to most reports and charts however I have been unable to find a way to add pictures to the "Genealogy Report" (register report).

The good news is that you can accomplish the same thing by exporting the Genealogy Report as a .txt file and then opening it in a word processor such as Microsoft Word, and then adding your pictures to the report. The word processor is also a good place to edit the Genealogy Report. You can remove some sensitive bits of information, add more information, adjust the appearance of the report to suit your own needs and add pictures and images of documents.

Saving a "Genealogy Report" as a .txt file:
Using Family Tree Maker, open the Genealogy Report that you would like to add pictures to.

Click on FILE, then click on EXPORT GENEALOGY REPORT. Then save the file as a .txt file on your hard drive. Remember where on your hard drive that you saved it. Now open your word processor software, next open the .txt file in your word processor.

Once you have the Genealogy report visible on the screen in your word processor, use the word processor to import the pictures that you want into the Genealogy Report. I use Microsoft Word and find the TEXT BOX feature is a terrific tool for setting up the pictures exactly the way I want them.

    Hope this helps :)
