NEW BRUNSWICKThe New Brunswick government began its formal civil registration of births, marriages and deaths in 1888 following the passage of an Act in 1887. It is important to note that the government's official registers include delayed registrations of births which date back as early as 1801. HISTORIC RECORDS As of August 2001, The Provincial Archives of New Brunswick holds civil registration records for the following periods: BIRTHS: 1888-1905 (generally open after 95 years) MARRIAGES: 1888-1950 (generally open after 50 years) DEATHS: 1888-1950 (once transferred and processed, open after 50 years) The Archives also holds some county registers and church records prior to 1888.
