Family Tree Maker Vista Update for Older FTM Versions
By: Rick Roberts, Biography & Archived Articles
Rick Roberts |
Many of our customers have mentioned that they have encountered problems when using Family Tree Maker 2005, 2006 or 16 on a Windows Vista computer. The reason for those problems is that FTM 2005, 2006 and version 16 were designed prior to the release of Vista. The result of running those FTM versions on Vista is that many features and options don't work any more. We've also heard of problems with family files becoming corrupted, a depressing development if you don't have recent backup of an uncorrupted sample of your genealogy file.
A solution is at hand! Family Tree Maker (Ancestry.com) has issued a new and free Windows Vista compatibility update that they claim fixes all of the problems encountered when running Family Tree Maker 2005, 2006 or 16 on a Windows Vista PC.
The update is downloadable and free. Read more about it at: http://past.familytreemaker.com/vistaupdate/
Please note that there are no Vista compatibility problems with Family Tree Maker 2008, 2009 and 2010, so no action is required on your part if your are using those versions. Unfortunately, there is no Vista update or solution for those who are using Family Tree Maker version 11 or earlier.
