In Memoriam - Michael Brede

The genealogical community lost an avid enthusiast and dedicated volunteer with the recent passing of Michael Brede. Michael accelerated his interest in family history research soon after retirement from the tech high tech industry. Two years ago he accepted the volunteer position of Regional Director of the Ontario Genealogical Society, where he played an effective role, successfully lobbying for a future annual convention in his region. Michael will be missed by all who had the priveledge of knowing him.

    Funeral: Cedar Hill Golf Club, Saturday March 7th, 2009 from 2-5 p.m.
    Burial: At A Later Date

    Tribute: At Home in Brockville on February 26, 2009 in his 64th year, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Son of the late Stanley Brede and Heckie (Jo) Bertrand (Brede/Stevenson/Wright). Beloved husband of Jackie (Ackerman), loving father of Cathy England (Grant, just like a son) and Dan. Proud grandfather of Liam, Connor and Tristam. Wonderful big brother of Cathy (Kyle Murray) and uncle of Meghan. Loved son-in-law of Mary and Gordon Main and Jack and Pat Ackerman. Brother-in-law to Rosemary Ahrens (David), Jim Ackerman and Lori Driscoll (Doug) and uncle to Jim, Rob, Ashlyn, Angie and Alana.

    After attending Carleton University, Mike made his careeer in the high tech sector, working at IBM, Cognos, Systemhouse and EDS. After his retirement in 2006, Mike was able to pursue his passion for Genealogy. In 2007, he assumed the role of Regional Director of the Ontario Genealogical Society and was thoroughly enjoying this work until his illness forced him to step down. Mike and Jackie enjoyed memberships at the Brockville Highland golf Club, where Mike particularly savoured rounds played with his grandsons.

    A Private Funeral Service will be held at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl St. East Brockville. Everyone is welcome to attend a Memorial Celebration of Mike's life at Cedar Hill Golf Club, Ottawa from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday March 7, 2009. In lieu of flowers , memoriams to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation or the Ontario Genealogical Society would be gratefully acknolwedged by the family.
