Slipping Canadian Dollar Means Built-In Discounts for Americans Published: 31 October 2008
By: Rick Roberts, Biography & Archived Articles
Over the last few weeks the Canadian dollar has slipped more than 20% in value compared to the American dollar. That means that Americans can buy Canadian goods at a discount equal to the drop in value of the Canadian dollar.
Many analysts agree that this is a temporary situation made possible by the recent rush to the American dollar by foriegn investors seeking refuge from recent market volitility. The temporary nature of the opportunity was confirmed this week by a halting of the decline of the Canadian dollar -- and a slight improvement. Even with the changes of this week, Americans can save almost 20% when they purchase goods from a Canadian source.
Example:
If a person buys a $100.00 shopping cart of products from a Canadian supplier today (10:05am ET) using their USA-based credit card, that purchase will only cost them $81.45 USD.
Global Genealogy's prices are all quoted in Canadian dollars.
When shopping at GlobalGenealogy.com you will note that there is a link provided under every price where you can Check price in your currency. Those currency values are provided by an independent third party provider as of the moment that they are checked. The price represents what your credit card provider will charge you if your order is processed at that moment in time. Please note that credit card providers have slight variations in the rates that they charge which may impact the exchange (up or down) by a percent point or so.
In conclusion, if use an American dollar credit card, you can save some serious money by purchasing products from GlobalGenealogy.com or other companies that price their products in Canadian dollars. How long that opportunity will last, no one knows.
