Upcoming Genealogy Fair in Peterborough, Ontario

Trent Valley Archives in Peterborough, Ontario has organized a genealogy fair to be held on 05 April 2008 at Wayside Academy, 575 Centre Line, Peterborough, Ontario. The event is a positive response to interest expressed by patrons of the archive, and as a fundraiser to help support the good works of the organization.

The genealogy fair is a full day event packed with interesting topics for everyone from people with a budding curiousity about family history research to those who are actively seeking their roots. A number interesting local speakers will present information on a variety of topics plus yours truly who will be comparing leading genealogy software, plus I'll be available to assist attendees regarding other genealogical resources. An agenda of speakers and topics follows:

Agenda:
  • 9am - Registration and welcome from Wally Macht (TVA President)


  • 9:30-10:30am - Workshop - Military Records
    • 19th Century, including the Loyalists (Dennis Carter-Edwards, Research Historian with Parks Canada
    • World War II military records , (Steve Guthrie, Journalist & Historian)

  • 10:30-11am - coffee break and Marketplace


  • 11:00-12pm - Workshop - Document Conservation (Basia Baklinski, Conservator for Lang Pioneer Village and Trent Valley Archives and owner of The Conservation Clinic


  • 12:00-1:30pm - Lunch and Archives visit


  • 1:30-2:30 - Workshop - Land Record Research (Gina Martin, Professional Title Searcher)


  • 2:30-4pm - Workshop - "Which Genealogy Software is Best for You" (Rick Roberts, co-founder of Global Genealogy / Global Heritage Press, publisher of 'The Global Gazette' and frequent speaker at genealogical conferences across Canada and the United States


  • 4pm - Wrap-up of day, with an opportunity to do personal research at Trent Valley Archives or find out more about family tree software and genealogy resources from Rick Roberts


A wide variety of heritage products vendors have been invited to exhibit at the event, including Global Genealogy which will be offering books and software for family history and local history buffs. If there s a specfic title/s that you would like to evaluate, contact us and we will be sure to bring it along at no obligation.

Registrations are being handled by Trent Valley Archives' volunteers
