Make a Donation to the Legal Action Trust Fund

Official Website

This web page provides three methods whereby you can make a contribution to the Trust Fund that has been established to mount a legal challenge to reverse the unpopular decision of Statistics Canada to block access to historic (Post-1901) census of Canada for all time. More info regarding Post-1901 Census (Canada) legal action.

Make a Donation by:   Postal Mail   |   Online   |   Phone

  • Make A Donation by POSTAL MAIL

  • Send your cheques to:
      Lois Sparling
      Vallance & Company
      Barristers & Solicitors
      Suite 1400
      550 - 6 Ave SW
      Calgary, Alberta T2V 3H4
Cheques should be made out to "Lois Sparling - in trust". Make the notation "Census Action" on the cheque. Lois will be the lawyer representing the Plaintiffs in the case. The funds will be deposited to her trust account. Lois has the means to accept US and other foreign currencies, and can also accept contributions through VISA. Cheques are preferred because of the bank charge for credit cards.

A receipt will be issued for each and every contribution received. It will keep costs down if groups can collect from their members and send one cheque thus requiring the need to issue only one receipt. Make sure to include a covering letter or note with your full name and mailing address.

  • Make a Donation ONLINE

All donations made by online payment are forwarded to Lois Sparling In-Trust, Vallance & Company Barristers & Solicitors for deposit to the Post-1901 Census Project Legal Action Trust Account. Each donation is recorded under the specific name of the contributor/s.

Credit card processing is being managed by GlobalGenealogy.com Inc. on behalf of the Post-1901 Census Committee. All of your donation goes into the Legal Action Fund. GlobalGenealogy.com is donating the staffing and communication costs incurred to process online donations. The trust fund will pay bank charges.

No additional fees of any kind (taxes, S#H, etc) will be added to the amount of your donation.

If you would like the official receipt to state that the donation was made by a family, group, list of persons, or society, please include the exact name/names in the COMMENTS SECTION in the final stage of the shopping cart CHECK OUT. The "comments section" will be forwarded to the committee with your donation.

Please print the completed shopping cart "Check Out" form, and the confirmation page that appears after you complete the transaction. Keep these for your records. You will also receive an email confirming receipt of the transaction.

Once Lois Sparling has processed your contribution you will recieve an official paper receipt from Sparling In-Trust, Vallance & Company Barristers & Solicitors via postal mail. It will be sent to the address that you provide in your shopping cart check-out.

ABOUT THE POST-1901 CENSUS PROJECT (Canada)

The Post-1901 Census Project is co-ordinated by a volunteer chairman and formalized committee representing constituents from every province and territory in Canada. The people who are in this effort include private citizens, casual family historians, genealogists, historians, social historians, geographers, geneticists, senators, members of parliament, lawyers and others from every walk of life. Supporting organizations include genealogical societies, heritage groups and historical societies.

Others from around the world, who have roots in Canada, have demonstrated a keen interest in this project with their letters, emails and donations to the legal fund.

A significant portion of the cost of preparation and pursuit of a favorable legal ruling is being supported by volunteer researchers and lawyers who are donating thier time and resources. However there are a number of direct expenses involved in a legal action that need to be funded. Make a donation now
