The time has come for the provincial APOLROD group to say good-bye. The project's goal was to save the pre-1955 land registry office records. At this point in time, We HAVE accomplished our basic goal. Most of the records have been moved from local Land Registry Offices to a local repository or to the Archives of Ontario. While there remain some counties without homes for their records, the Archivist of Ontario has agreed to provide storage for the records until a repository can be found.
This massive project could not have happened without the support of the over 1400 members and 500 volunteers who gave of their time, money and energy to create and type an inventory, find a local repository and move the records. Many of our local groups are still recognized as "APOLROD" and continue to work to create local or regional archives or to make available the records that have been transferred. This local work will continue.
However, as the provincial body is no longer necessary, APOLROD is not accepting any further memberships or membership renewals. Your membership benefits will remain in effect until December 31, 2001.
While the project is complete there are still ways in which you can continue to help this cause:
- support the repositories who have become the hosts for these records;
- be vigilant as to what is happening with further land record movements in your area;
- add your voice to those who are calling for the creation of regional and county archives.
Important Links:
PLEASE NOTE:
- APOLROD CANNOT CONDUCT RESEARCH FOR YOU.
- APOLROD does NOT have any land records.
- If you need assistance in finding land-related information, contact the local Land Registry Office for your county of interest, or a professional researcher.
