BOOK - Continuing Dreams, The Second Beaverton Story.
by: Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society

Continuing Dreams: The Second Beaverton Story is the second book by the Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society regarding the history of Beaverton, Ontario.

The book is divided into three parts. The first eight chapters deal with topics not covered in any depth in the earlier book. These topics cover the whole period of Beaverton's history. The next five chapters cover specific eras. The chapter entitled "A Saturday Night in 1954" is a fictitious piece, and yet most of the people and events are real. The last part of the book focuses on the twentieth century, often beginning where the topic left off in the earlier book.

At the end of the book, just before the Index, are some maps. One of downtown Beaverton will be helpful when places referred to in the text are explained in relation to present locations. The other, of Thorah Township, attempts to show where such features as early schools, roads, rivers were/ are situated.

All people who live in a community have dreams whether they be self-centred or community focused. Everyone desires the best-a better place to live, a fairer, more just society, a caring community where each person's well-being is assured. This book is about the dreams, the goals, the hopes that people in all walks of life have had in our community's past, and what actions they have taken to try to fulfill them. The authors hope that readers will have a clearer understanding of Beaverton today through learning about those people who gave it shape yesterday.
