BOOK - Niagara District Vital Records Vol 1, Part 4: 1820-1869
by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai
Published by Global Heritage Press
Vital Records of Upper Canada/Canada West is designed as a critical companion series to the District Marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West. Clergy of the Anglican and Roman Catholic faiths were not required to submit marriage records to the District clerks for inclusion in the District Marriage Registers. This new series will attempt to include both Anglican and Roman Catholic vital records as well as many other denominations and records not included in the District Marriage Registers.
The Niagara District Marriage Register does not survive. In an attempt to capture some of this lost early information for the district, Dan Walker and Fawne Stratford-Devai, with the help of Marilyn Jackson and Brenda Young have begun to assemble and publish all existing vital records (early birth, baptism, death and burial records as well as similar yet unknown vital records) for the Niagara District.
This volume (Part 4) includes transcriptions of the following important records from the Niagara District:
- St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake,Baptisms, Marriages and Burial records 1830-1869
- Cayuga Methodist New Connexion Circuit, Baptisms 1844-1850
- Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Chippawa, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1820-1869
Please keep in mind that in many cases the records include entries from ministers who were also circuit riders or who covered a large territory. If you cannot find a vital event in the Niagara District you would be well advised to search bordering districts such as the Gore District and the Talbot District.
An example of some of the towns and townships where events occurred and were reported in the Niagara District Vital Records transcriptios include: Niagara township, St. Catharines, Chippawa, Thorold township, Caistor township, Stamford, Moulton township, Grimsby, Louth township, the Falls, Crowland township, Gainsborough, Grantham, Humberstone, Newark (now Niagara-on-the-Lake), the town of Niagara, Queenston, Pelham township, Rainham township, Stamford township, Wainfleet township, the town of Dundas, Walpole township, Trafalgar, Saltfleet, the Grand River, Nelson township, Glanford township, Clinton township, Ancaster and many more areas not noted in the records.
