In October of 1792 the old District of Nassau (1788-1792) was renamed the Home District and included the present counties of York, Ontario, Peel, Simcoe, Wentworth, Halton and Brant. In March 1816, the Counties of Halton, Wentworth and Brant were separated out of the Home District to become the Gore District. In January of 1843 the County of Simcoe became the Simcoe District. Effective 1831 marriage returns for the Home District were required to be returned to the Clerk of the Peace in the District of York. Returns were sent to the Clerk from clergy who performed marriages, with the exception of Anglican and Roman Catholic ministers. As of January 1850 all Districts were abolished and the Home District became the United Counties of York-Ontario. Beginning 1853, the United Counties of York and Ontario were separated into Ontario County and the United Counties of York and Peel. In 1858 the counties of York and Peel assumed the duties of registering their own marriages.

This is the final volume in the 4 volume transcription of The Home District Marriage Register. Part 4 includes a complete transcription of the remaining pages of volume 6 not printed in part 3. The original register is held by the archives of Ontario (filed as RG 80-27-1 Volume 12). The Archives of Ontario has granted permission to transcribe the Home District Marriage Registers. The original registers have been microfilmed and are available from the Archives of Ontario through Inter-Library Loan or in the reading of the Archives of Ontario. The registers are also available on microfilm to Local Family History Centers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). The reference for each volume is listed below:

By 1850 when the District system of government was abolished, the Home District became the United Counties of York-Ontario. In 1853 Ontario County was separated and York County became the United Counties of York-Peel. In 1858 York and Peel Counties were separated.
