BOOK - Torbolton by the River, Vol Two.
By The Torbolton Township Historical Society.

The original book “Torbolton by the River” (Volume One) was finished in 1993, and is now out of print. After 1993, members of the Torbolton Historical Society started gathering material for Torbolton by the River, Volume II. Families whose stories weren’t included in Voume One, submitted them for inclusion in Volume II. Most of “Torbolton by the River” Volume I dealt with the part of Torbolton north west of Vance’s Side Road. Woodlawn was the Post Office for these people.

Volume II focuses on the people located south east of Vance’s Side Road, whose mailing address is Dunrobin. The compilers also updated some stories from Volume One, added poems and songs, anecdotes and some ‘snippets’ of history.

A great deal of information for this book was taken from The Tweedsmuir History which was written by Mrs. Alex (Lorna) Baskin for the Dunrobin Women’s Institute. Of particular interest is the “General History of Dunrobin and District” which includes hand drawn maps and covers the period from the early 1800s to 1970 by decades. It provides a wonderful picture of the changing times. As Dunrobin is situated on the Town Line between March and Torbolton, historical information from both townships is included.
