12/09/2004 - email from MP Marc Godbout to Michelle Knoll. From: Godbout, Marc - M.P. Dear Michelle, Thank you for your recent letter in which you asked my position on the release of census records. I certainly believe in a balance between access to census records and the issue of privacy, and therefore I will support Bill S-18 of the Hon. Senator Bill Rompkey once it will come for a vote in the House of Commons. I will get back to you as soon as I find out when such a vote will take place. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions or concerns. Thank you once again for your letter. Sincerely, Marc Godbout, MP 12/01/2004 - email from MP Marc Godbout to Patty McGregor. From: Godbout, Marc - M.P. Dear Patty McGregor, Thank you for your recent letter in which you expressed apprehension over the refusal by the Chief Statistician to release the 1911 census to the Library and Archives Canada as he was supposed to do in 2003. I certainly understand your concern, and therefore I will support Bill S-18 of the Hon. Senator Lorna Milne once it will come for a vote in the House. I will get back to you as soon as I find out when such a vote will take place in the House of Commons. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions or concerns. Thank you once again for your letter. Sincerely, Marc Godbout, MP 11/30/2004 - email re: MP Marc Godbout from Patty McGregor From: Patty McGregor Hi Gordon et al I received a call today from an assistant to Marc Godbout, MP for Ottawa Orleans assuring me that Mr Godbout will be voting for the Bill when it comes before the House. He suspected that that would not be before the spring - likely May. I have not yet managed to connect in person with Mr Godbout but that is the plan if we can manage to fit it in to our schedules. If not, we will arrange to discuss by telephone - at which point I will make our concerns known about the opt-in/ out clause. Stay tuned, but I think the fence can be changed to a gold tick based on the reply I received.
