Queries Frontpage>Member Query BOWERBANK / MITCHELL PHOTOThe photo is not related to eastern Ontario -- I found it and another related one in an antique store in Toronto in 1996/7. I bought them because they were identified on the backs. I used it for the LCGS website because I thought it would be a good "meeting" illustration and because it would just fit in one pass of my hand-held scanner. Warning -- don't ever waste your money on a hand-held scanner! In early August 1998, as a result of finding this file during a search of the Internet, the Bowerbank photos were discovered by a descendant and were reunited with their proper family. (See Below). One photo, about 1880's, taken in a Toronto studio, is marked: The other which is illustrated on this website is marked
on back:

BIBLE & PHOTOS FOUND BY FAMILIES When I
returned from vacation in early August and was finally able to retrieve my
email, there were two messages of note waiting for me. The first, from
Connie (Foley) Burns, of Lansdowne, Ont.: "I received e-mail today from Beth Millar in Saskatchewan saying there was information on this homepage regarding a Foley Bible. When I looked I find the Bible (belonged to) my great grandparents John & Jane Foley. I am the daughter of George Leonard Foley, whose name is entered in the Bible along with his sisters Edna and Margaret and brother John C. Foley. All of these old books were left in the homestead where John C. Foley lived out his days. Being a bachelor, his nephews cleaned out the house and apparently the Bible was sold. I would be interested to know where you found it. This is amazing to see all of this on the web."The second message was from Barb Bowerbank in northern BC: "I periodically do a search on the name "BOWERBANK" as it is my husband's family name and I have done extensive research back to the original immigrant "John Bowerbank" who settled in Oakville around 1850. John is my husband's great great grandfather. He married Sarah ION. They had 13 children and only the 2 eldest sons (my husband decends from the 2nd son) remained somewhat in the area (Hamilton/Burlington/Oakville). One daughter died in Oakville, and all the other siblings seemed to vanish! I could find little trace on some, however I do know that one married a John FREESTONE (of Oakville who saved all his money to buy his first home for his bride! I couldn't believe it when I saw your description of the "Bowerbanks" (by the way we now spell it as all one word!) as these are the distant relatives that we have been searching for....and I can't believe you even have a picture!!!"Both the Foley Bible (found in the Smiths Falls flea market) and the Bowerbank photos (found in a Toronto book store), have been returned to their proper families. For those who wish to view the Foley Bible, it can be found in the "Documents / Family Bibles" section of this website. The Bowerbank photo is the one which illustrates the "Monthly Meeting Schedule".
