Queries Frontpage>Member Query Member # 880 Query 2nd PageRon W. Shaw Tel: 613-267-9617 I am researching the story of a group of families who arrived in Lanark County Ontario from Scotland in 1820-1821 under a British Government assisted immigration scheme (The Lanark Society Settlers - LSS). By the mid 1830s elements of 11 of these families had moved on to the counties of Lambton and Simcoe in western Ontario. In the late 1830s and early 1840s they converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). Some begin appearing in Nauvoo, Illinois about 1843, others only reached Nauvoo in time to join the 1846 exodus across Iowa to Council Bluffs and Winter Quarters. All carried on to the Salt Lake Valley between 1847 and 1853. The family names concerned are as follows; BORROWMAN, BROOKS, BULLOCH, DONALD, DUNCAN, FINDLEY, FORSYTHE, GARDNER, HILL, HOOD, PARK I am also interested in the non-LSS name Samuel BOULTON/BOLTON/BELTON; This man was a LDS missionary in Upper Canada in the late 1830s and early 1840s. He converted John Borrowman who, in turn, was responsible for converting many of the others. Samuel Bolton/Boulton and Samuel Belton are probably not the same man, but that is not certain. I have assembled reasonably complete family genealogical charts for my subjects (with the exception of missionary Samuel Boulton/Bolton/Belton), although there are always errors or missing information which could be added or corrected. My primary interest is to locate information on the lives of these families so that they are more than names and dates. I am seeking information and stories from diaries, journals, memoirs, family histories, obits, etc. Although any and all assistance, no matter how minor, will be greatly appreciated, the most significant hole in my narrative concerns the years between approximately 1835 and 1845 when these families were living in western Ontario.
