Searching for parents and/or siblings of JOHN RITCHIE JR (1767-1828) and his wife JANET
LUKE (1773-1856) of Scotland. They were married at East Kilbride, Lanark Co Scotland in 1792. They later located to Fintry, Stirling Co where John worked as a smith in charge of machinery, likely in the large cotton mill that was built in 1796. With their family of 9 children, they emigrated to Perth, Ontario, Canada in 1815 aboard the ship "Atlas". Their children's ages ranged from 3 months to 21 years at that time. Old family papers mention John
RITCHIE apprenticed in 1784 to Henry HANNAH , smith of Lennie Park for the term of 4 years, his brother James "taking burden upon himself as cautioner" (which likely meant that their father was already deceased at that time). John's father reportedly had resided in "Delry Mills", or possibly "Dalry Mills". Another possibility is that the Ritchie family originated near Edinburgh, as Lennie Park is situated between Edinburgh and the Airport.
