John Iacoviello, kjohn@telus.net

My gr-grandfather Rev. John Albert CALDWELL was b. 13 Jan 1874, Watson's Corners, Dalhousie Twp. He was the son of John CALDWELL (b. ca. 1843) and Ellen/Helen McILRAITH (b. ca. 1845) and grandson of John CALDWELL (1817-after 1888?) and Agnes WHITE (b. ca. 1819) of Darling Twp. And James McILRAITH (1816-1894) and Ester Jane STEWART (b. ca. 1820 in Ireland), also of Darling Twp.

Rev. John Albert CALDWELL m. Mary Jane GEMMILL at Pilot Mound, Manitoba 5 June 1907. She was a daughter of William GEMMILL (1849-1926) and Mary PORTEOUS (1853-1936) and granddaughter of John GEMMILL (1813-1882) and Isabella MUIR (b. ca. 1816), who left Rosetta, Lanark Twp. for Huron Co. c. 1856 and William PORTEOUS 1809-1891) and Elizabeth WYLIE (1811-1857), both natives of Dumfries, Scotland who emigrated to Ontario c. 1854 (apparently also had relatives that went from Lanark Co. to Huron Co. about this same time). Is William PORTEOUS a relative of Robert PORTEOUS who appears on the Dalhousie Library list in 1841?

I am seeking information on Perth military settler Captain George FERGUSON, who settled at or near Perth about 1817. His son, Stephen Bromley Jarvis FERGUSON was born at New Brunswick 18 April 1808. I have no further info concerning Captain FERGUSON and am interested in anything relating to him or his military career.

Stephen Bromley Jarvis FERGUSON married Jane RICHARDSON at Perth(?) 25 February 1829 and settled at Concession 6 of Bathurst Twp. near Perth. Jane RICHARDSON was born 1809 and died 9 Nov. 1851. Stephen and the remaining family then moved to North Gower Twp. in Carleton County, Ont. Am seeking information on Jane RICHARDSON's origins and parents/siblings.

Stephen and Jane had a family that consisted of children Roderick, Ann, Eliza, Henry, Rachel, Jane (my gg grandmother), John, Euphemia, and George. My gr-gr-grandmother Jane FERGUSON was b. 4 May 1841 near Perth, Lanark Co. and m. Alexander LINDSAY (1836-1905) of Kars, Carleton Co. I have further information on these people and will share if desired.
