Cal Devitt, 1351 Inwood Rd., Rochester, MI 48306, U.S.A.

My g'g'g'grandfather, I believe, was Andrew LIDDLE / LIDDELL, who was possibly married twice -- once to Jane ?. It's possible that Andrew was born in 1793 in Stirling, Scotland. Date of death is believed to be 1873. If I am correct, this is the family mentioned on pg. 96 of The Lanark Society Settlers, by Carol Bennett, where it states the information was "kindly shared by Mary Becker." Does anyone know Mary Becker? I would like to contact her.

A daughter, Mary (my g'g'grandmother) was born 15 May 1808 in Glasgow, Scotland. She m. David FORBES on 11 Oct. 1839. She died 01 May 1891 in Lanark. Burial place unknown.

Their children: David E. FORBES, Jr., Janet Liddell FORBES, and my g'grandmother, Elizabeth FORBES. She married Thomas Laing JOHNSTON(E) in Nov. or Dec. 1872. (She was born 24 July 1852, or, according to Scottish church records, 1841!!).

Thomas Laing JOHNSTON(E) was born to Thomas JOHNSTON(E) and Janet LAING on 29 Oct. 1852. Thomas, Sr., was born in 1830, married in 1851, and died 14 January 1873. His wife Janet was born in 1824 in Glasgow, Scotland. She died 03 June 1911 in Dalhousie Twp. Buried at St. Andrew's, Watsons Corners.

My g'grandmother, Elizabeth Forbes JOHNSTON(E), was born in Scotland and came to Canada when she was six years old. She and my g'grandfather and their six children went from Lanark Co. over to Michigan in 1888. My grandmother, Mary JOHNSON, was 10 years old. The spelling of the name was changed to JOHNSON perhaps about the time they came to Michigan.

I would like to correspond with anyone having knowledge of any of these families. I would like to know the birthplace of Thomas JOHNSTON(E) and Thomas Laing JOHNSTON(E). After my g-grandparents came to Michigan, it is possible that some of the other JOHNSTON(E)s moved to New Ontario.
