Member #587 Query

Edith Beaulieu, Box 2026, Ompah, ON, Canada. K0H 2J0.

           Our gr-grandmother, Janet McDOUGALD was a desc. of Alexander McDOUGALD (1769-1852) who came to Lanark Co. from Scotland in 1824 with his wife Janet CLARK (1790-1860) and Janet's widowed mother, Margaret McKellar CLARK (1748-1845). They settled on Lot 13, Conc.1, N. Sherbrooke. As far as I can learn, they had a family of:
  1. Donald McDOUGALD (1802-1887), my gr-gr-grandfather, a stone mason, and his wife Janet CAMERON (1807-1879) came to Canada in 1848 and had a family of 9;
  2. Duncan (a shepherd & knitter) m. Agnes TWADDLE, had a family of 3, died a young man;
  3. Peter, m.? CRAWFORD. No info other than they parted shortly after they married and a child was born - where & who was his wife?
  4. Dugald (1808-1887) m. Janet CRAWFORD (1812-1882) (dau. of John CRAWFORD & Janet BRYCE). They had a family of 12;
  5. Violet McDOUGALD (1812-1893) m. Duncan FERGUSON (1797-1875). They had a family of 6;
  6. Alexander (1816-1889) m. Mary McTAVISH (1820-1886). They had a family of 7;
  7. Mary m. John WARNOCK and had a family of 6;
  8. Margaret died as a very young child.

           I would appreciate any info from desc. as I would like to verify that the info which I have is correct.
           Also researching FLETT.

Added August, 1998 -- The following query may repeat some of the above

I am researching the CRAWFORD/McDOUGALD side of my father's ancestors.

           John CRAWFORD, b. Scotland ca 1785, married Janet BRYCE (ca 1786-1858), came to Canada as Lanark Society Settlers in 1821. John and Janet came with their family on the ship Commerce sponsored by the Hamilton Emigration Society. They settled in Dalhousie Twp. on W 1/2 L9 C12. John CRAWFORD was a staunch Presbyterian and in 1855 set aside part of his farm for a church and burial grounds, which today is Crawford's Cemetery. Janet is buried there, I have no date as to when & where John died.

    They had a family of six known children:
  1. John: b. Scotland 1810. Married ? Alive and listed in the 1881 Census with his younger brother Thomas -- no info on Thomas.
  2. Jennie (Janet): b. Scotland 1812, d. 1882. Married Dougall McDOUGALL and had a family of 12.
  3. Robert: b. 1813, m. Sarah BAIN 1832? They had a family of nine. No info on when or where he died, nor on where he's buried. No info on the family.
  4. Thomas: b. 1817, m. Margaret McDOUGALL -- daughter of ? They had a family of five, but no other info.
  5. Janet (Jessie): 1820-1900, m. James GILMOUR, had a family of 11. Have little info on this family.
  6. Alexander (Sandy): 1823-1910. m. Janet McDOUGALD (1832-1915), d. of Donald McDOUGALD (1802-1877) & Janet CAMERON (1807-1879). They lived on L15 C4 North Sherbrooke and had a family of 10. This couple are our gr-grandparents. We would appreciate hearing from any descendants of this family line.
