           The earliest record of this family purportedly from County Cavan, Ireland is the 1820 Location Report for Lanark County where Owen HUGHES received 'Military Emigrant' land in Dalhousie Twp., Lot 5 Conc 5. His father-in-law Owen FLOOD was on the adjoining half of Lot 5. They eventually owned over 600 acres on Conc 5 and 6 and were dairy farmers.
