PAUL, MCKINNON, OATWAYDecember 2004

Looking for information about William PAUL who married Flora MCKINNON. William (whose middle name may have been John) was born about 1832 in Scotland and died June 21 1906. He lived in Dalhousie as far as I know.I do not have parents for him. Flora McKinnon was born about 1832 in Ontario and died Sept 14 1902. She married William Paul July 21 1857 in Perth. Flora's parents seem to have been John MCKINNON and Annie STEWART of Dalhousie.

Many of these folks seem to be buried in Crawford Cemetery although I have not checked details.

I am looking for any and all information concerning these people and where they came from in Scotland. I have a lot of information on the descendants of the son of Flora and William

William Robert PAUL and his wife Jessie Clara OATWAY which I am delighted to share.

In his obituary of Thursday June 21 1906 in the Perth Courier, William PAUL is said to have died at the home of his niecec Mrs Albert WILSON of the East Ward. He was from Dalhousie and is buried at McDonald's corners. he was 82 when he died. He is said to leave behind an adopted son W.R. of Smiths Falls.

W.R. PAUL is William Robert PAUL who is my great grandfather. When he dies at age 47 on February 11 1909, he is said to be the brother of Mrs Albert WILSON.

This indicates to me that WR PAUL (although "adopted" was related and was likely the son of one of Flora McKinnon PAUL's family (she was William Sr's wife) or of William Sr's family.

Can anyone tell me how I might track William Robert to his biological parents? He was born January 12 1860 - before birth registrations and was born in Dalhousie as far as I know.

I am looking for information about Jean VANEXHEIM who came to Canada as part of the de Meuron Regiment to fight in the War of 1812. He settled in the Perth area about 1815 and married Anne GLASCOTT (date unknown). Anne was the sister of William, John and Lucinda GLASCOTT who all had arrived in the Perth area from Co. Wexford Ireland about 1820. Jean  and Anne had two children: John and Lucinda (who died in infancy). As an adult John spelled his name VANEXAN (to the present this is the family name) and the family lived in the Perth/ Smiths Falls/ Merrickville area for many years. John married Mary Jane EAGLETON from Merrickville in September 1849.

Anyone having any information about the trial of Anne GLASCOTT for the murder of her child as reported in the May 1848 Perth Courier, please contact me. Specifically, I am interested in Anne's age, parentage, etc. as I am trying to establish if she was my gr gr gr grandmother of the same name. Any information would be much appreciated.

I am also looking for information on William  PAUL (my gr grandfather).
Here is what I know: William died in 1909 and his wife moved to Auburn NY.
Had children:
  1. Ellen McRae, born about 1883, Perth died 1902, buried Elmwood in Perth;
  2. Florence, born Nov 24 1884, Perth;
  3. Nelson, born 1886, Perth;
  4. William John Leslie, born Sept 17, 1888, married Georgina VANEXAN, Smiths Falls Aug 31, 1910 (my grand parents);
  5. Eva, born 1889, died 1910, buried Elmwood in Perth;
  6. Ernest, born April 28, 1893, Perth;
  7. Elizabeth, born May 14, 1894, Perth.
Census:
This family shows on the April 1891 census (page 26) as living in Perth. It shows that William was born in Ontario and was Baptist.
What I need:
Anything at all on the father of these children - William PAUL.
