Hi Gordon, and all others involved or interested in the campaign to release the post 1901 Canadian censii (?? ), and first, thank you Gordon for your HUGE efforts on behalf of family researchers everywhere.

Gery and I attended the afternoon town-hall session at Halifax yesterday. Wonderful setting, 30+ people in attendence but we missed the first speaker (who I understand was anti) as was the second. The room was well monitored, but the noise of the airconditioning muffled the speakers, and at first opportunity I remarked on this, and the Environics "chair" also said he was experiencing the same/similar problems. The Hotel staff quickly responded and turned off the fan. Everyone suddenly thanked me for my intervention, as they were having problems too.

The speakers were:

Darce Fardy (didn't hear him)

Dennis Pilkey (sort of heard him, but know nothing of his credentials)

Michael Colborne (Librarian at the NS Provincial Library)

Dr. Brian Taylor (his Phd was drawn from his utilization of census records. I understand from the "chair" he was involved in a Canadian Atlas and mapping Project .. a Geologist)

I am unable to give you full details of the speakers because of the problem hearing what was said, but Environics recorded it all, but their (I presume their) camera person only videoed the beginning (the anti folks), and packed up and left before Michael Colborne spoke.

The room was definitely Pro, as evidenced by stoney silence after presenter Dennis Pilkey, whose twaddle (that which I could hear) was nothing but rhetoric, but the response to the last two speakers was greeted with cheers and applause. Michael Colborne spoke from the perspective of the family researcher & and tourism it elicits eg. whereas Dr. Brian Taylor gave a scholarley presentation which was fascinating. I didn't take notes (other than names) but I understand the minutes will be presented on the Environics website.

We had intended to attend the evening presentation, however there was a predicted "weather event" which did in fact occur, so I can't report on attendence at that.

Hope this help a bit.

Sue Swiggum
