Petitions consist of two pages. The first page contains a preamble giving reasons for our request, and the "prayer" (that part telling the government what action is desired) followed by a number of lines for signatures. The second page includes the prayer at the top followed by lines for signatures. As many second pages as needed may be included with a single first page. Petition pages may be double-sided. They may not be modified in any other way. Do not cross out or add words to the prayer, or staple or tape any attachments to the petition. Government scrutineers will void any petitions so modified. Each and every signature page MUST include the prayer at the top of the page. Parliamentary rules state that only citizens or residents of Canada may sign a petition to the House of Commons. However, a Non-Resident petition has been provided for those living outside of Canada to show support for our efforts. It is worded to compliment petitions signed by residents of Canada. It will be presented to the Senate by Senator Lorna Milne. ONLY those not having a residence in Canada may sign this petition. The other petitions may be signed ONLY by residents of Canada. Signatures on these petitions from those living outside of Canada will be voided by government scrutineers. Petitions will be presented to the House of Commons or the Senate as applicable. Because they are directed to different places, the same individuals may sign both the House of Commons and Senate petitions.
When submitting completed petitions please include a note indicating where, and by whom (name, organization, etc.) signatures were collected. Download these Instructions (PDF)
