Funding The Legal Case

Contribute by Credit Card -- On-line or by telephone

In preparing to proceed to the Federal Court it was estimated that approximately $8,000 would be required. This amount was made up of approximately $3,000 expected to be needed for expenses (no legal fees), couriers, long distance telephone calls and faxes, filing fees and the cost of transcripts. The balance ($5,000) is to protect the Plaintiffs in the unlikely event that costs are assessed against us by the Court.

In early January 2002, a single posting was made to a number of genealogical mail lists announcing our intention to proceed to the Courts and requesting financial contributions to fund our action. At the same time we requested contributions to the legal fund, we advised that when all was said and done we expected to be able to reimburse, on a pro-rated basis, any unused funds. We advised that only those making contributions of $100 (Cdn) or more would receive a pro-rated refund, and suggested that individuals wishing to contribute smaller amounts join with others and combine their contributions so as to be eligible for any possible reimbursement. Our funding goal was reached, and exceeded, within three weeks of that posting.

Even though we have reached our original funding goal we continue to accept any contributions sent. There are a number of reasons for doing so.

  • to give those wishing to participate, but who have not yet done so, the opportunity to do so now

  • the more funds we receive, the greater each eligible donor's reimbursement will be

  • in case the amount of funding required may have been underestimated

Arrangements have been made to enable processing of contributions via credit card, either online, or by telephone. US and other foreign currencies can also be accepted. To contribute directly send your cheques to:
