Hi Gordon

Notwithstanding a wrong date in yesterday's paper, I was hugely impressed by the super presentations and the big crowd that turned out in Edmonton.

The organizers had set out about 30 chairs which were filled by 1:30 pm. and people kept arriving faster than more chairs could be wheeled in. The standing room only crowd was about 100 in the afternoon. The arrangements were somewhat better in the evening but the crowd also grew to about 115. This seems to be at least double the participation of the previous biggest meeting.

There were a series of quite excellent presentations in favour of the census release and shooting holes in the abundantly stupid "Option" (no longer presented as "balanced" or a "compromise"). Every presenter and commentator was totally scornful of that item and very strong on the reasons for, and benefits of having 1906 and 1911 census data ASAP.

I only wish I could hope for some favourable results from this effort but I am very pessimistic.

Ian Holmes
