02/16/2002 - email from Nat Smith to Gordon A. Watts regarding MP Alexa mcDonough.
To: "Gordon A. Watts" Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2002 12:44 PM Subject: Re: Post 1901 Census - Updates to Scoreboards Gordon, Hello, I am just emailing you to let you know that I got a verbal promise from Alexa McDonough. I had a one on one meeting with her on Wednesday along with about four other people. She was in town dowing the rounds and we got a chance to sit down with her for two hours, Wednesdya night. Just before she left I asked her what she thought about all of this dealing with the census and she said that at first they didn't know what it was all about. Then they got a lot of reading material about it and she thinks that's a waste of time to try and stop the release. It didn't make sense to her. Nat 02/05/2001 - email from office of MP Alexa McDonough to Muriel M. Davidson.

Sent: January 23, 2001 7:48 PM To: McDonough.A@parl.gc.ca; Subject: Welcome Back! To Alexa McDonough, MP:- Hello Alexa: Welcome back to a new Session of our House of Commons!! As a former Nova Scotian, I am very proud of your GOLD tick meaning that you were in favour of SUPPORT of release of the Bills and Motions presented and that you would vote YES, on our behalf. I am hopeful you will do the same this coming Session when Senator Lorna Milne and Murray Calder, MP present new Private Member's Bills, same wording as before -- but must be re-presented due to the Nov. 27th election. The census pages will be greatly changed, bilingual, each province a separate page. I know this may not affect you, but we hope to obtain support from Quebec Members of Parliament and residents. Should you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask. Looking forward to an e-mail with your name at the bottom and a big YES. Muriel M. Davidson Canada Census Committee member Brampton ON -- formerly Nova Scotia 07/13/99- e-mail from the leader of the New Democrats party Alexa McDonough to Mr. Callard:
Thank you for your email message concerning access to historical census records. I appreciate you taking the time to bring your concerns to my attention. The information contained in census documents is of great use to genealogists and historians. I am pleased to inform you of my support for the Global Gazette's Post 1901 Census Project. Former NDP Industry Critic, Chris Axworthy, as a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, has written to the Minister of Industry calling for legislative provisions for the release of census records after a reasonable period of time, such as 92 years. Thank you again for writing. Sincerely, Alexa McDonough, MP for Halifax Leader, Canada's New Democrats 04/30/99- e-mail from The Global Gazette to MP
A web site has been posted at http://globalgenealogy.com/census to record MP's responses, so that those who are interested, will know the position that their elected representative has (or has not expressed) on the issue. Also included on the web site, is a correspondence log for each Member of Parliament, which will contain responses to this e-mail plus any other correspondence from the MP. The Question: "Would you, as an elected Member of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, vote FOR or AGAINST a Bill supporting release to the Public, of Post 1901 Census Records, 92 years after they were recorded. ( 1911 census information available in 2003, 1921 in 2013 etc)" If you would like to expand on your position, your entire response will be posted to your individual correspondence log. The Post 1901 Census web site is sponsored by Global Genealogy & History Bookstore. A vast number of e-mails and calls from subscribers and web site visitors, clearly demonstrates that this issue is extremely important to them. Many readers have expressed that their current MP's position on this issue will weigh heavily in their decision process during the next election. |
