11/26/2001 - email from MP David Kilgour to Julie.
To: Julie Sent: Monday, November 26, 2001 8:04 AM Julie, Thank-you for taking the time to contact my office. I have received a considerable volume of letters, e-mails, and phone calls from constituents concerned about the release of these historical documents. I have also met with genealogists, historians and archivists who have relayed their concerns and interests on this matter to me. The Department of Industry, under whose purview this matter falls, is conducting cross-country consultations that are to be completed early next year. Once these town halls are completed and their results have been reviewed, it is my hope that this historical information will be released once and for all. Warmest regards, David Kilgour 10/01/2001 - email from MP David Kilgour to Frank McKerry.
To: "'Frank McKERRY'" Sent: Monday, October 01, 2001 7:00 AM Subject: RE: Release of the Canadian Census Dear Frank: Thank you very much for e-mailling me your views regarding the release of past Census information. Over the last few months, I have received numerous letters and met with many constituents who have expressed similar concerns. I've also written to Industry Minister Brian Tobin regarding the matter. This is an important issue, and I welcome your opinion. Warmest regards, David Kilgour 09/24/2001 - email to MP David Kilgour from Frank McKerry.
To: David Kilgour, MP: Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2001 10:52 PM Subject: Release of the Canadian Census Hon. David KILGOUR, M.P. Edmonton South Sir: Not being one of your constituents, but when you vote in the House it affects me anyway. It is noted that you are undecided on how you will vote on the release of the Census to Archives Canada. Thousands of families, many are your constituents, are trying to trace their ancestors who pioneered this great country. We require the Census to assist us in bringing family closure. We urge you Sir to please vote YES when this Bill comes to the House. Respectfully Frank McKerry Vernon, BC 08/15/2001 - email from MP David Kilgour to Jill Turner.
Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 15:07:10 -0400 To: Jill Turner Subject: 1901 census Dear Jill, Thanks for the e-mail. I thought it was clear to the Edmonton Genealogy Association members who came to see me that I was in favor of releasing the 1901 census. Indeed I indicated the same to Brian Taber. Many thanks, David 06/06/2001 - email from MP David Kilgour to Carolyn Haines.

Many of my constituents have raised similar points to me on this very issue. As such, I've written to Industry Minister Brian Tobin, in whose purview this matter falls, so that he may be aware of the concerns. I will let you know what transpires. Warmest regards, Sincerely, David Kilgour 05/23/2001 - email to MP Bob Kilgour from Muriel M. Davidson. From: "Muriel M. Davidson" To: Bob Kilgour - MP Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2001 7:29 PM Subject: It is 2001 -- NOT 1999 As YOUR Message Board Indicates! I could not believe it when I looked at YOUR personal census scoreboards -- and saw the date April, 1999 -- You have not even answered the first letter sent to you by Global Genealogy. There have been other letters since the Scoreboard was set up -- if any have answered, contact me. Regardless of your position in a party caucus, replying to letters is being courteous. When the Canada Census Committee organized in March, 1999 -- the first pages were set up by Rick Roberts of this company. You likely did not know you had a personal message board - at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score3.htm#ONT Just click on your name and you will find a very BLANK message board! Many people read these messages -- but the 1999 date is impolite. Go to http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/ . You will find a great deal of information at this site, plus petitions, all information in both languages. Visit http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html . Scroll down until you see MEMORANDUM OF LAW by Lois Sparling, an Albertan lawyer. It may be printed and is good reading! More good reading will be THE MYTHS OF CENSUS by Gordon Watts. It is also printable as copyrighted material has been removed. Both Murray Calder and Senator Lorna Milne, with Bill S-12, are working on behalf of all Canadians as I am. The wording of their PMBs is identical. Bryan Keddy and I have the above page, with personal pages of both Murray Calder, MP and Senator Lorna Milne posted. QUESTION:- How will you, as an elected Member of Parliament, vote if Murray Calder's Bill C-312 comes before the House of Commons and is deemed votable? Will you be in SUPPORT of census release, and transfer to National Archives? Will YOU vote as your constituents would like you to vote -- you are the one in Ottawa -- they can only watch and listen on CPAC. Please, let's get rid of the Blue ??? -- the hard work by many people in Ontario deserve better than that. The two hard-working members of the Liberal Caucus deserve your support. Looking for a POSITIVE reply -- PMBs are FREE votes if deemed votable. Muriel M. A web site has been posted at http://globalgenealogy.com/census to record MP's responses, so that those who are interested, will know the position that their elected representative has (or has not expressed) on the issue. Also included on the web site, is a correspondence log for each Member of Parliament, which will contain responses to this e-mail plus any other correspondence from the MP. The Question: "Would you, as an elected Member of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, vote FOR or AGAINST a Bill supporting release to the Public, of Post 1901 Census Records, 92 years after they were recorded. ( 1911 census information available in 2003, 1921 in 2013 etc)" If you would like to expand on your position, your entire response will be posted to your individual correspondence log. The Post 1901 Census web site is sponsored by Global Genealogy & History Bookstore. A vast number of e-mails and calls from subscribers and web site visitors, clearly demonstrates that this issue is extremely important to them. Many readers have expressed that their current MP's position on this issue will weigh heavily in their decision process during the next election. |
