05/13/2003 - email from MP Brenda Chamberlain to Muriel M. Davidson.
To: Muriel M. Davidson Sent: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 11:35 AM Subject: your correspondence Dear Ms Davidson, I am writing in response to your recent e-mail regarding Bill S-13 and the amendments that you feel are necessary. Thank you for contacting this office. While Mrs. Chamberlain is not necessarily opposed to the amendments your organization seeks, as you may know, were the House to amend the Bill, these amendments still must pass in the Senate. Were the Senate not to pass the amendments from the House, Bill S-13 and the gains contained within for genealogists would be lost. Having said this, I think that most would agree that S-13 represents a very positive step forward, and creates a better regulatory framework than that which presently exists for genealogists to conduct their research. We have been asking constituents who have contacted this office about S-13 and the amendments they would like to see, whether it is better to pass the Bill as is and push for further changes later, or to make the changes now and risk losing the bill in its entirety. This office would certainly welcome your thoughts on this matter. Regards, Jamie Bryan Executive Assistant to Brenda Chamberlain, M.P. 152 Confederation Building Tel: 996-4758 Fax: 996-9922 e-mail: chambb0@parl.gc.ca www.brendachamberlain.parl.gc.ca 05/31/2001 - email from MP Brenda Chamberlain to Muriel M. From: "Muriel M. Davidson" To: Brenda Chamberlain - MP Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2001 10:31 PM Subject: Could We have A Reply With 2001 Date? To Mrs. Brenda Chamberlain, MP: I have been checking the personal message boards, found at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score3.htm#ONT Due to Global Genealogy having to install a new system, your letter from 1999 does not seem to be available on the server. It must have been positive -- your have a Gold YES symbol. Murray Calder has PMB C-312 and with identical wording, Senator Lorna Milne has S-12. Do we continue to have your support for release of Post-1901 census records, anxiously awaited by all family researchers? Looking forward to a message, dated 2001, which Gordon Watts will post. Muriel M. Davidson Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee 06/22/99- letter from M.P. Brenda Chamberlain to Helen Calllaway (Global Genealogy): 04/30/99- e-mail from The Global Gazette to MP
A web site has been posted at http://globalgenealogy.com/census to record MP's responses, so that those who are interested, will know the position that their elected representative has (or has not expressed) on the issue. Also included on the web site, is a correspondence log for each Member of Parliament, which will contain responses to this e-mail plus any other correspondence from the MP. The Question: "Would you, as an elected Member of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, vote FOR or AGAINST a Bill supporting release to the Public, of Post 1901 Census Records, 92 years after they were recorded. ( 1911 census information available in 2003, 1921 in 2013 etc)" If you would like to expand on your position, your entire response will be posted to your individual correspondence log. The Post 1901 Census web site is sponsored by Global Genealogy & History Bookstore. A vast number of e-mails and calls from subscribers and web site visitors, clearly demonstrates that this issue is extremely important to them. Many readers have expressed that their current MP's position on this issue will weigh heavily in their decision process during the next election. |
